Please check this article before you read this tutorial if you are not familiar with the American Express Membership Rewards program. Here is the tutorial to show you how to transfer American Express Membership Rewards points to airline/hotel partners:

First, log in your the American Express online account, and you will see the following screen:

You will see all your credit cards under your account after you log in. You can choose any credit/charge cards as a default card to show up at the first. For example, I chose American Express Everyday card as the default card. Membership Rewards points can be earned by using this card. Select “Membership Rewards” on the top right and you will see the following screen:

Click the “Travel” option, and you will see the screen below:

There will be two options: “Transfer Points” and “Book Your Trip with Points”.  Do not choose “Book your Trip with Points” option because that will make AMEX to use your points to pay the airline tickets/hotel stays as cash, which means you will only get the value of point in 1 cent/point. Please choose “Transfer Points” and click “Get Started”. You will see the transfer partners in the next screen:

Airline partners

Hotel partners

We will use Singapore Airlines as the example of point-transfer. After clicking on Singapore Airlines, you will see the following screen:

You can input the number of Membership Rewards points you would like to transfer to Singapore Airlines Krisflyer program on the right column (1 : 1 ratio). If you have never transferred points to the partner before, the system will ask you to enter the airline program membership number first, so the system can connect your Membership Rewards account to airline/hotel program. After inputting the number of points you would like to transfer, you will see a review screen before AMEX initiates the transfer:

You can click “Continue” to finish the process when all the information is correct. The system will send out the notification email to inform you the process is completed.  You can also transfer Membership rewards to the Authorized User.
