[News] Capital One Announces Airline Mileage Transfer Partners!

As of now, American Express Membership Rewards, Chase Ultimate Rewards, and Citi ThankYou Rewards program are the “big three” currencies. Today, another bank is announcing a groundbreaking leap forward for its miles-earning cards. Capital One has announced that they’re introducing a transferable points currency. Earlier in the year Capital One added 10x miles per dollar spent on hotels when you pay with your Venture card at Hotels.com/Venture website, and they’ve recently added a statement credit for TSA PreCheck or Global Entry. Now Capital One is making their points more valuable!

Starting in December, Capital One miles will become a flexible points currency with great power. On top of being able to redeem Capital One miles for travel purchases with the Purchase Eraser, you’ll be able to transfer Capital One miles to at least a dozen airline programs. Those who have earned Capital One Venture miles via Capital One Venture Rewards card or Capital One Spark Miles via Capital One Sparks Mile for Business card will soon be able to transfer their miles to 12 travel loyalty programs with solid ratio. Here are the new Capital One transfer partners:

  • Aeromexico Club Premier
  • Air Canada Aeroplan
  • Air France/KLM Flying Blue
  • Alitalia MilleMiglia
  • Avianca LifeMiles
  • Cathay Pacific Asia Miles
  • Etihad Guest
  • EVA Infinity MileageLands
  • Finnair Plus
  • Hainan Fortune Wings Club
  • Qantas Frequent Flyer
  • Qatar Airways Privilege Club

One of the useful transfer partners – Avianca LifeMiles

These transfer partners are just the start. Capital One says they plan to add additional transfer partners on an ongoing basis. You’ll be able to transfer Capital One Spark miles and Capital One Venture miles into partner airline miles at a 2:1.5 ratio (2 Capital One miles to 1.5 airline miles). Currently the Capital One Venture Rewards card and Capital One Spark Miles for Business card earn 2x miles per dollar of spending, and each of those miles can be redeemed for 1 cent towards the cost of a travel purchase. So essentially for every dollar you spend on either card, you’re getting 1.5 miles in one of these transfer partners.

I think this is fantastic news. The Capital One Venture Rewards card has been one of the go-to credit cards for booking hotel stays since it introduced the ability to earn 10x points per dollar when booking from Hotels.com. Now with the ability to transfer Capital One miles to airline partners, I believe this is such a fantastic development on the part of Capital One, since these cards will be so flexible. The cards already offered great flexibility with points being redeemable towards the cost of any travel purchase, but now you’ll also be able to convert them into airline miles at a solid ratio. Some may question about Capital One lacking the bonus categories. However, for your everyday, non-bonus spending, this is a good return since every dollar spent will earn you either two cents worth of rewards towards travel, or 1.5 airline miles.
